Description:
Fitment: 89-05 Mazda Miata
Details:
OVERVIEW
This fuel hanger completely replaces the factory in-tank fuel pump module and allows 1 or 2 aftermarket pumps to be used. The OEM fuel level sensor is reused.
No modifications are required for fitment under the fuel pump access cover.
FUEL PUMP COMPATIBILITY

Walbro GSS342
Walbro F90000267
Walbro F90000274
Walbro F90000285
*Ti Automotive E5LM
NOTES:
1. There many other compatible pumps not listed. The pump must have a 39mm outer diameter.
2. There will be enough components included to use 1 or 2 fuel pumps, as shown above.
*3. The Ti Automotive E5LM pump does NOT have an integrated check valve. If staging 2 of them, consider 20-0798.
NOTES ABOUT FUEL STARVATION PROTECTION
1. Although not very effective, the OEM internal fuel tank baffle is still used.
2. The 1-piece anodized aluminum collector box keeps fuel trapped around the pump inlet(s).
3. There are two 1-way fill valves incorporated in the bottom of the collector box that allows fuel in, but not out. Each 1-way fill valve flows 355 LPH.
4. As shown below, the collector box is constantly replenished with fuel returning from the pressure regulator.
NOTES ABOUT PORTS AND FITTINGS
1. The "PUMP OUT" port is tapped with 7/8"-14 (10AN ORB) threads.
a. Provided is an SAE quick connect hose end with barbs (shown below) for 89-97 MX-5 fuel lines.
b. Provided is a 10AN ORB to SAE quick connect banjo fitting for 99-05 MX-5 fuel lines.
c. Additional 10AN ORB adapters fittings can be found HERE.
2. The "FUEL RETURN" port is tapped with 3/4"-16 (8AN ORB) threads.
a. Provided is an SAE quick connect hose end with barbs (shown above) for 89-97 MX-5 fuel lines.
b. Provided is an 8AN ORB to SAE quick connect banjo fitting for 99-05 MX-5 fuel lines.
c. Additional 8AN ORB adapters fittings can be found HERE.
NOTES ABOUT FUEL TANK VARIATIONS
There are multiple fuel tank changes between the 89-05 MX-5. Anodized billet aluminum extension brackets (shown below) with distinct mounting configurations permit compatibility with all fuel tank variations.
To retain the different OEM fuel level sensors, an extension mount (shown above) is provided for the later models that have deeper fuel tanks.
NOTES ABOUT FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR
When installing the pump hanger into a 89-97 MX-5, the OEM fuel pressure regulator is retained. This is mounted on the fuel rail and has no direct correlation with the fuel pump hanger.
When installing the pump hanger into a 99-05 MX-5, the OEM fuel pressure regulator will be removed from the system. An aftermarket FPR is required for these vehicles. There are 2 plug and play options:
1. 20-1022 FPR KIT, 99-05 MAZDA MX-5 foundHERE
2. FUEL HANGER PLUMBING KIT, 89-05 MX-5 (Coming Winter 2023)
Read below for more details.
NOTES ABOUT FILTRATION
1. This system includes multiple pre-pump filters for all pumps.
2. This system does NOT eliminate the OEM "post" pump fuel filter.
NOTES ABOUT WIRING
1. Depending on the fuel pump and fuel pressure, some single pump installations can re-use the OEM wiring.
2. It is recommended to upgrade the wiring to ensure the pump(s) are operating at their full potential.
3. Universal fuel pump wiring kits can be found HERE. Select one for each aftermarket fuel pump used.
4. The in-tank wiring is insulated with high quality chemically resistant ETFE.
5. The stainless steel terminals easily handle the high current demand that compact bulkhead connectors lack.
6. Serviceable connections are hermetically sealed and impervious to all standard and exotic fuels.
7. Non-conductive anodized aluminum acorn nuts (shown below) prevent accidental short circuiting.
PLUMBING KITS
VEHICLE COMPATIBILITY
89-05 Mazda MX-5
A large 8AN feed line runs around the backside of the fuel tank. This line mates to a new high flow fuel filter mounted in the OEM location using a billet mount, as shown below. A 10 micron stainless steel (-03) or a 6 micron microglass (-05) element is used depending on the kit selected.
An 8AN PTFE fuel line runs from the fuel filter along that factory hard lines, as shown below.
This 8AN PTFE line feeds the RA-series fuel pressure regulator (FPR) mounted under the RH strut tower. From the FPR, an 8AN PTFE fuel line feeds the front port of a dead head aftermarket fuel rail (not included). The Mazda 1.6L B6 Fuel Rail or Mazda 1.8L BP Fuel Rail are sold separately.
The OEM fuel feed line is repurposed as a high flow return line. The OEM fuel line connects directly to the FPR return fitting.
A fuel pressure gauge mounts directly to the feed line for easy adjustment.
